What you discover in Jericoacoara

Jericoacoara is the center of an extensive dune and conservation area at the coast of the state Ceará and is located 305 kilometers western from the megacity Fortaleza.

Jericoacoara used to be a small unknown fishing village that was difficult to achieve.  Its original character still can be found in the sand streets, the houses, huts and in the quiet rhythm of the inhabitants of the village.  Here Brazil is still the authentic Brazil, although Jericoacoara was crowned toward one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world by the prestigious “Washington Post” in the year 1994.  Locally there is not only one main beach, but different, various, and miles long never ending beaches for every requirement (surfing, party, calm, repose, and solitude).

The fishing village Jericoacoara (photographed from the “Duna Do Por Do Sol”, in the foreground you can see the omnipresent beach buggies) and a fisherman who is coming back from his work:

Imagine a village in the middle of nowhere, where you can find a regular wave that is alluvial by the sea, where is consistently good wind for kite surfing, where is located a party scene which is for example easily competitive to Mykonos.  To this you can discover everywhere restaurants with superb and inexpensive food, a lot of shops, wellness (spa), and massage capabilities.

That’s Jericoacoara!

Take only your shorts and Havaianas and be heartily welcome in the surfer’s Paradise.

In Jeri, you can find beaches for every requirement:

The whole territory became protected in the year 2002 and is called now “Parque Nacional de Jericoacoara”.  The conservation area comprises of 8,416 hectares and includes a lot of different and dreamlike landscapes:

Huge shifting sand dunes, ponds, lakes with crystal clear fresh water, oases, mangroves, coconut trees, cliffs, beaches with quiet swell, beaches with waves to surf, sandy and rocky beaches, caves, and grottoes.  Inside the frontiers of the conservation area from Jericoacoara, constructions like streets are forbidden.  The same is true of hunting, predatory fishing, and any other activities that can disturb or pollute the environment.  That’s why you can find locally a properly, magic, nearly surreal environment and nature. When I saw this the first time, I was completely taken aback.  It is difficult to put this paradise into words.  You should see it with your own eyes.

Allow yourself a gorgeous, nearly surreal insight in the nature of the “Parque Nacional de Jericoacoara“:
